On Thursday, March 19, 2015 Pemberville 4th Graders attended a Young People's Concert performed by the Toledo Symphony Orchestra. The concert featured music of American composer Aaron Copeland, among others. The theme was "Road Trip," and all of the music played was connected to a driving trip across the United States. Before the concert, we took a quick tour of the Toledo Art Museum and after the concert, we ate lunch at McDonalds. Check out the photo gallery for pictures of our trip. Thank you to our chaperones!

On March 10, 2015 Mr. Michael Sander visited all three 4th Grade music classes to present a demonstration on composing electronic music.(3-0 was lucky to see the presentation too as they also have music class on Tuesday afternoon.) As you can see in the photos, he brought a lot of electronic equipment. He showed the 4th Graders how music can be generated and then altered electronically. He used his electronic marimba to improvise over music that he had already written. That music was being played electronically through his computer. On the smart board, we watched the written music as it was being played, but you wouldn't recognize it as music. It doesn't use traditional notes, rests, etc. It was an amazing afternoon. Please see the photos below. Thank you Mr. Sander!
On December 12, 2014 our Friday afternoon music classes were treated to a visit by Mr. Mike Sander. Mr. Sander is the father of Eric and Ian Sander. He is a musician and composer. He actually went to Pemberville School when he was a young man! Mr. Sander taught the 4th graders about John Cage and composing by chance. He also demonstrated various types of drums for both first grade classes.( See photos below.)
